Free Header Templates For Your Writing Portfolio

Written by Monica Shaw

We all know that "branding" is a really important aspect of marketing yourself as a writer. This can be a challenge with writing portfolios, as many are based on pre-built templates that look a bit, well, generic. One great way to add extra personality to your portfolio is with a custom header. To help you with your personal branding, I've created a set of free header templates that you can use to customize your writing portfolio. They were designed with Writer's Residence portfolios in mind (you can create yours for free if you haven't already).

Here's one of our header templates in action:

The headers were designed with Canva, an awesome tool for creating all kinds of website assets. You'll need a Canva account to use the templates (don't worry, Canva has a free tier, so this won't cost you anything).

Click here to access the Writer’s Residence Website Headers - you’ll need to create a copy of the Canva page to edit it on your own Canva account (upper left File menu → Make a copy, as shown below). Once copied you can customize the headers to suit your own name, headshot, writing niche, and whatever else you want.

The Canva file currently contains 10 free header templates you can choose from. I plan to add to this as time and inspiration allow.

I founded Writer's Residence alongside my own journey as a professional writer in 2008. Today, I continue to work as a writer among other side hustles that contribute towards my freelance lifestyle. I write for other businesses - white papers, research reports, web content, and other forms of copywriting - as well as for pleasure on my own personal websites, eatsleepwild.com and smarterfitter.com.
